In 2018, Bitvavo launched the first version of its digital assets trading platform, to bridge the gap between traditional currencies and digital assets. By offering transparent fees, a wide range of assets and an easy to use platform, Bitvavo is making the currency of the future accessible for everyone.
In two years' time, Bitvavo has established itself as the market leader in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe, with over one million users exchanging tens of billions of digital assets a year.
Our team, located in Amsterdam, is looking for self-driven, talented people who can help make digital assets available for everyone.
About the Opportunity
We’re looking for a Security Specialist to join our Security Detection and Response (SDR) team — a key pillar of Bitvavo’s defence strategy. In this role, you’ll lead complex investigations, fine-tune detections, and enhance our network, web, and data protection capabilities. You’ll be a go-to expert when incidents escalate and a driver of continuous improvement across our detection and response ecosystem.
What You'll Be Doing
Threat Detection & Analysis: Investigate high-priority alerts, determine impact and root cause, and ensure effective follow-up actions.
Detection Engineering: Optimise and tune detection rules, dashboards, and alert mechanisms to improve visibility and reduce false positives.
Incident Response: Lead or support response efforts — from triage and containment to remediation and post-incident review.
Security Controls: Strengthen data, endpoint, and network defences by supporting the design, monitoring, and continuous improvement of security measures.
Process & Tooling Improvement: Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and document security workflows and playbooks.
Knowledge Sharing: Maintain clear documentation and contribute to team learning through regular training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
What We Look For
4+ years of hands-on experience in security detection & response, threat hunting, or incident management.
Strong grasp of detection logic, SIEM/SOAR tools, and investigation methodologies.
Practical understanding of data protection, endpoint defence, and network security concepts.
Analytical thinker who thrives in fast-moving, high-impact environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to explain complex findings clearly and effectively.
Relevant certifications such as Security+, GSEC, or GCIA are a plus.
